Scriptures Can Calm

This well-designed quote comes from

"Scriptures can calm an agitated soul, giving peace, hope, and a restoration of confidence in one’s ability to overcome the challenges of life. " -Richard G. Scott, The Power of Scripture

There Is a Power

It is not just that the Book of Mormon teaches us truth, though it indeed does that. It is not just that the Book of Mormon bears testimony of Christ, though it indeed does that, too. But there is something more. There is a power in the book which will begin to flow into your lives the moment you begin a serious study of the book. You will find greater power to resist temptation. You will find the power to avoid deception. You will find the power to stay on the strait and narrow path. The scriptures are called “the words of life” (D&C 84:85), and nowhere is that more true than it is of the Book of Mormon. When you begin to hunger and thirst after those words, you will find life in greater and greater abundance. --Exra Taft Benson, The Book of Mormon--Keystone to Our Religion, Ensign Nov. 1986

Never Walk In Darkness

This past weekend, my family went on a trip down to an area in Southern Utah known as the Irish Canyons. While we were there, a group of us hiked a slot canyon called Leprachaun. As we came out of the last bit of the slot part, I was able to catch this photo of my little brother Tyler Hawks. I have always loved this talk by President Hinckley and felt that this quote went perfectly with the photo. Hope you like it!

We reach toward the unknown, but faith lights the way. If we will cultivate that faith, we shall never walk in darkness. -Gordon B. Hinckley, "We Walk by Faith," General Conference Apr. 2002

Power of Our Covenants

Don't Be a Scrub

You can be excellent in every way. You can be first class. There is no need for you to be a scrub. Respect yourself. Do not feel sorry for yourself. Do not dwell on unkind things others may say about you. Polish and refine whatever talents the Lord has given you. Go forward in life with a twinkle in your eye and a smile on your face, but with great and strong purpose in your heart. Love life and look for its opportunities.-Gordon B. Hinckley How Can I Become the Woman of Whom I Dream? Ensign, May 2001, 93.

Whatever Sacrifices

May we make whatever sacrifices are necessary to attend the temple and to have the spirit of the temple in our hearts and in our homes. -Thomas S. Monson, The Holy Temple--A Beacon to the World

Hardest and Easiest

If we have faith in Jesus Christ, the hardest as well as the easiest times in life can be a blessing. -Henry B. Eyring, Mountains to Climb, General Conference April 2012

Brilliant Morning

The gospel teaches us that relief from torment and guilt can be earned through repentance... there is no habit, no addiction, no rebellion, no transgression, no offense exempted from the promise of complete forgiveness.-Boyd. K Packer, Brilliant Morning of Forgiveness

Solid Ground

There are times when we have to step into the darkness in faith, confident that God will place solid ground beneath our feet once we do. -Dieter F. Uchtdorf, http://www.lds.org/general-conference/2012/04/the-why-of-priesthood-service?lang=eng

Woes vs. Wows

Dictionary

Anyone who studies the workings of the human body has surely seen God moving in his majesty and power… Yet, some people erroneously think that these marvelous physical attributes happen by chance or resulted from a big bang somewhere. Ask yourself: Could an explosion in a printing shop produce a dictionary? The likelihood is most remote. But if so it could never heal its own torn pages or reproduce its own newer editions. --Russell M Nelson, General Conference April 2012. Design by Ryan Hawks.

You + God

Years ago my little brother put this up in the kitchen, and it has always stuck with me. True principle that we could all be reminded about every now and then!

Mountains Removed

"I have never witnessed the removal of an actual mountain. But because of faith I have seen a mountain of doubt and despair removed and replaced with hope and optimism. Because of faith I have personally witnessed a mountain of sin replaced with repentance and forgiveness. And because of faith I have personally witnessed a mountain of pain replaced with peace, hope, andgratitude. Yes, I have seen mountains removed."  Richard C. Edgley, "Faith--the Choice is Yours," General Conference, October 2010. http://www.lds.org/general-conference/2010/10/faith-the-choice-is-yours?lang=eng
